Lehlaba Centre

BACKGROUND

The centre was established in 1997 and delivers stimulation care and protective work.  The centre is registered as an NPO and is affiliated with APD, Limpopo Province since 2011.  Although the stimulation care centre and protective workshop is on the same premises, they are ran separately. The centre is managed by a Management Committee.

 

CHALLENGES

Stimulation – The child stimulation group is not effective enough due to the lack of trained personnel and proper educational toys.

Protective Workshop:

This workshop was established with the aim to teach disabled youth (18 +) skills that would improve their life’s. Activities of the workshop include woodwork, poultry, gardening, beadwork, artwork, and soap making.

 

Stimulation Care centre for children with disability

Clients 5-18 years.

Stimulation services provided.

 

FUNDING AND FINANCE

Although the centre receives a subsidy from Department of Social Development they rely on income generated from selling products produced at the workshop..
