Thobela Centre was established on 14 January 2002. Ms. Theresa Kekana was previously involved with Mahwelereng Centre of Hope as volunteer, but joined Thobela Centre with Suzan Mogashoa and Dorah Mokgopo as volunteers.
The project started with 5 clients. They rented a four roomed house when they started but in July 2002 the Induna provided them with their own site. They used a two roomed shack for years and paid the next-door house for water.
Thobela Centre affiliated with APD Limpopo in 2003/2004. The Dept. of Social Development was involved in organizing the building project for their new centre with money provided by the Flemish Government. As of May 2011, the project has 27 clients. Stimulation is the main activity at the centre.
